Tricky plot when what the main character thinks will happen isn't quite what she expects. She tells one lie that explodes into a whole bundle of lies that are awfully hard to untangle, especially without family members on her side. Really well written plot and characters make this book fun to read and very suspenseful!

Sep 24, Wealhtheow rated it it was ok Shelves: At first i didn't mind, but too often i'd come across two words stuck together due to the lack of spacing. Once or thrice is okay, but it went on till the last chapter and that got irritating. Uhmn, it is possible that the coachman was indeed handsome, but i think the author meant "Hansom cab", a horse-drawn carriage designed by a Mr.

The list could go on. During her visit with the silicitor to "claim her pension", the solicitor spoke to her in a manner much too familiar for that period and at a first meeting, especially after she introduced herself as Lady Kirby "Have a seat my dear". He should have addressed her as Lady Kirby, or My Lady, not my dear. The hero is an only son and heir, but both his parents still lived and very active in society, so he could not have been carrying the title of Marquess yet, not until after his father died and he inherits the title.

The romance is almost non existent; but once the hero located the heroine after she moved out, they suddenly declared themselves in love with each other. Wow, what happened, a strike of lightning? I can't say i really liked the heroine. She finds herself worthy of no less than a Duke or a Marquess.

Yet she acted foolishly, and still think that she could just march off to London by herself and catch such a titled husband as if they are waiting like sheep at market for her to choose from. Silly plot; or perhaps not, but the execution plus the inconsistencies and editing issues gave me a poor impression. At least the book is free from explicit scenes.

Such a pity it got published in such state. I'm sure this book could have merited much from professional editing. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. The story started out great. There were minimal editing issues and I enjoyed the characters. However unfortunately the characters didn't develop as the story progressed and I started to loose interest from the lack of emotions. It felt like what little emotion portrayed was forced. Also I felt like parts of the story were out of place.

I have trouble with books where the main characters fall in love and share their love before the conflicts are all done with unless those conflicts are started from the beginning of the story. One person found this helpful.

  • I was beginning to like this story. The characters were pretty strong, the plot was intriguing. I liked them together, loved her having to be a maid. Parts of the book were ridiculous.

The families knew each other, they met as children, their mothers were best friends The author dragged parts of the book out and then decided to end it abruptly, skipping over the details and throwing everything into a few pages. No concrete happy ending, no punishment for one of the main villains, just a glossed over recap of the hero's actions told to us. Could have been a great book. I got this for free, but was still disappointed. The author blew the ending, blew the last chapter. Keeps one on the toes. Well written, though many errors, which got a bit distracting.

This was a wonderful--wonderful book. It had love, intrigue, mystery, everything that a book should have.

    See a Problem?

Had something happened here recently? Something they didn't want the other villages to know about for fear of being seen as vulnerable? Ino tapped her fingers to her lips, wondering what was more likely in this case: She'd done her homework, and realised that the weather in the Land of Lightning was often simply catastrophic. Perhaps that had played a major role in whatever had gone wrong here. Filing that knowledge away in her mind, Ino continued along the path, wondering where the other inn, the more costly one, could be found.

She was soon distracted, however, when she noticed a pair of older men, one of whom was clearly a shinobi, sitting in the shade of a tree and playing a board game.

    Clue: Artful deception

A light smile graced Ino's lips when she recognised the game they were playing: She managed to fight down the wave of loneliness that threatened when she thought of them, but she still couldn't help but wish at least one of them were here with her on this mission. Technically, now that they were all chuunin, they wouldn't necessarily be working together from now on.

And as much as Konoha had been able to recuperate after the attack, the village still couldn't afford to send more than one shinobi on this mission. Ino was in this by herself.

Artful deception - crossword puzzle clue

The idea had worried her at first, and in many ways still did. She had thought that Shikamaru would be more fitting for this type of mission… she was able to admire his intelligence without bitterness, and knew how much easier a time of it he would have thinking up plans to obtain information, and piecing together the puzzle that arose in the best possible manner. Ino remembered bringing the question to her father, asking how she could have been chosen for a task for which another was so much better suited, especially since it was her first as a chuunin.

Smiling to herself, she recalled his response: Shikamaru is one of the most brilliant shinobi in Konoha, but his genius is still unaccompanied by any real drive. You, Ino, however… you're intelligent enough in your own right, and know how to observe things. But your true skills lie in understanding people and knowing how to handle them… and that is why you , not Shikamaru or anyone else, are suited for this position.

She smiled ruefully, not sure how much she appreciated the idea of her communication skills being the best she had. Ino was a shinobi, not a reporter or counsellor. Would she ever be recognised as such, or would she always be regarded in such a secondary role? She sighed; still, there was more to the life of a ninja than battle alone, as a mission such as this one demonstrated.

Forcefully she pushed such depressing thoughts out of her head. She had a job here, and she was going to accomplish it. And as much as she missed Shikamaru and Chouji and the rest of the village at the moment, it wasn't like she was going to remain alone for the entirety of her stay. Tsunade and Asuma had suggested that meeting and befriending some of the citizens of the village would both help her build her alias as a unthreatening civilian and give her important sources of information.
